Michael Jackson was born on 29th August 1958 in Gary, Indiana. Speaking to Jackson in his 1988 memoir Moonwalk, he was the eighth of ten children in the Jackson family who were staying in a two-bedroom house at the time.
His mother, Katherine Jackson, had aspired to be a country performer, but when Jackson was young, she was working part-time at Sears store in the USA.
His father was Joe Jackson, a former boxer who played the guitar with a blues band, the Falcons, in addition to his work as a crane operator at US Steel, to supplement the family income.
Michael Jackson influenced the way audiences looked at music and with his chartbusters and best-sellers created a never-ending craze. He gave his heart and soul to pop and rock, and penned pages of music literature that would go on surviving for decades to come. In the truest sense, a music propeller, it was his outstanding gift and prodigious talent which made him a global phenomenon. Michael Jackson numerous honors and honorary names, such as ‘King of Rock’ and ‘Artist of the Decade, Generation, Century and Millennium,’ bear witness to his remarkable career in music.
Michael Jackson grew up in a big household. He had five (Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Randy) brothers and three (Rebbie, La Toya, and Janet) sisters. For Randy and Janet both younger, Michael was the sixth youngest. The Jacksons were very poor and lived for eleven people in a small house with just two bedrooms.

Joe Jackson knew his kids were very good. He thought they should be making music popular. They changed the band’s name to the Jackson 5 and started performing around the area. They then began to visit the Midwest, where they performed in bars and clubs. They won several talent shows and began building a name for themselves.
The Jackson 5 signed a deal with Motown Records in 1968. Diana Ross Presents the Jackson 5, their first album, reaching # 1 on the R&B chart and # 5 on the Pop Albums Chart. On their first single, Michael sang the lead vocals, “I Want You Back,” which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
Michael had several solo albums, while also performing with the Jackson 5. He didn’t launch his solo career at first, however, he had a few hit singles including “Ben” and “Got to Be There.” Nevertheless, Michael met music producer Quincy Jones in 1978 while working on the movie set The Wiz. He broke free from the family band and was working on his first record, “grown-up.” Michael released the album Off the Wall in 1979. It was a major success and had four top ten hits like “Rock with You” number one singles and “Don’t Hesitate ’til You Get Enough.” Michael was now one of the biggest pop stars.
Michael Jackson released many more successful albums including Terrible (1987), Risky (1991), HIStory: Past, Current and Potential, Book I (1995), and Invincible (2001).
Michael Jackson died on 25 June 2009 from a heart attack. He was 50 years old. The heart attack was actually induced by medications he’d been using to make him recover.
